Great Saddles!

We started the custom saddle fitting process in early spring.  After a careful fitting process under Eric’s guidance, we were all satisfied with the fit, especially AJ (the horse). The saddle was then promptly finished. We have been riding steadily for the past several months, so this review is based on a fair amount of use (not just the excitement from having a new saddle). AJ and I are both very happy. The Mountaineer saddle fits both of us like a glove–it is lightweight, comfortable and well made. I expect years of great riding!

Can’t wait for my new saddle,

Can’t wait to get my new Steele saddle! I  have been singing your praises about how much I liked the trail saddle demo.  Gerrie

As I was getting ready to begin my ride from California to Texas, I knew I would need a special saddle. I have a lot of trouble with my left knee which has been broken twice and with my right leg which was broken two years ago. I needed to find a saddle that had a free swinging fender to allow a full range of motion for my legs. I found it in the Steele Mountaineer. It is an endurance saddle and mine was in the western style. It was also a concern that I was riding a Quarter Horse with low withers and a wide back. This saddle was perfect. I had full contact with my horse because there is not a lot of heavy skirting as on my western saddle. In combination with a saddle pad that had full side silicone gel inserts, it was a fabulous fit on my horse. I never had a single minute of pain in my legs, even after grueling 25 mile days in extremely rugged terrain. My horse was never sore backed from the saddle. It has a deep seat and more than enough dee rings to attach additional gear. The saddle stayed in place no matter how steep the trail was up or down. It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden, bar none. Steele saddles come in a variety of styles, both English and Western style. They have something to fit every need. I recommend them highly.  – Andi

A stable mate introduced me to them,

A stable mate introduced me to them.  She has a Steele Plantation trail saddle that is around 26 years old! She just recently sent it back to Steele for some repairs. She was thrilled with the repairs and will now continue to ride in her saddle. She bought it used and has had it for about 21 years. She rides a TW gelding that is a wide load!!!

Great, great, trail saddle

Great, great, trail saddle. Customer service is awesome. Bought my Mountaineer saddle in 2009 and never regretted it. I opted for the lighter tree which increased the price a bit, but well worth it. The stirrups are normally set somewhat forward so I opted to have them moved back about a 1/2 inch. The saddle is extremely well made. It will last you a lifetime. I am short (5’4″) so they accommodated by providing shorter skirt and stirrup leathers. Their loaner program made it really easy to be able to buy this Steele trail saddle.
